About the Item

Armchair, solid oak, fabric, the Netherlands, 1930s This armchair, typical of the Hague School style of the 1930s, displays a restrained and geometric character that emphasizes structure and craftsmanship. Made of solid oak, its form is defined by straight lines, right angles, and a sense of architectural balance. The construction is open and legible: each element (armrest, leg, and backrest) is clearly expressed as a structural component, contributing to a feeling of honesty in design. The seat, upholstered in a blue fabric, introduces a subtle contrast to the warm tone of the oak. The backrest is slightly inclined and composed of simple, planar elements. The proportions are modest yet robust, characteristic of Dutch modernist furniture of this period. The design recalls the work of Cor Alons, with its focus on functional clarity and rational form. The result is an armchair that feels both utilitarian and refined. An embodiment of interwar Dutch design values, where simplicity, construction, and material integrity were central concerns. Please note that the item is in good, used condition with wear marks. Reupholstery is possible before shipping by our experienced craftspeople in our own in-house restoration atelier. With high attention for the original, they make sure every piece retains its value and is ready for the many years to come. We kindly ask you to contact our design experts for further information about the endless possibilities our restoration and upholstery atelier has to offer. Of course, a locally organized reupholstery is possible as well.
