About the Item

A stunning and most unique Italian 18th century Louis XV st. Mecca armchair, from Naples. This impressive throne armchair is raised by four cabriole legs with scrolled feet and cabochon carvings on the top caps of the two front legs. The front and both side aprons showcase wonderful arbalest shapes accented with scrolling reserves. The arms are decorated with foliate designs leading up to the scrolled hand rest. The shield shaped upholstered back support displays an elegant mottled border and a wonderful scrolling seashell top crown flanked by draped acanthus leaves on both sides.
