This is a beautiful antique giltwood armchair, in the fabulous Regency style, and early 20th century in date. The gilded chair has been beautifully carved with reeded lines and medallion plaques. The arms and supports scroll out in exaggerated curves which support the lime green upholstered back and seat. Add a touch of class to your home with this exceptional antique armchair. During the Regency period it was fashionable to copy the classical furniture of the Roman and Greek times. Furniture had stopped evolving in design and had moved back to classical forms. The Pioneer designers who represented this period were: Thomas Hope (1770-1831), George Smith (1804-28), Henry Holland (1745-1806)c George IV had a major influence over the furniture makers of the time. Finely carved mid 19th century Italian giltwood open armchair of wide proportions in the Rococo manner. Italy, Venice Circa 1860. The asymmetrical scroll and leaf-carved top rail, centred on a stylised shell within over scrolled uprights, above a newly upholstered grey silk padded and dished seat between scroll-ended arms, raised on a decorative foliate carved scrolling X-frame base with a conforming central stylised shell. 18th Century, Italian Louis XV Carved Giltwood Armchair Measurements: cm H 108 x W 73 x D 77, seat H 46 x D 51 x W 61 The splendid large armchair, in finely carved and gilded wood, was made in Genoa, in the Louis XV period, mid-18th century. The pentagonal back has a wavy and curvilinear profile, and is decorated with carvings with phytomorphic and rocaille elements. The armrests, slightly moved and decorated with carved leaves, end with a volute and from this fit the seat. The band under sitting is moved and decorated with rocaille elements, as well as the legs, arched, and curly feet. On the back, a repainting of the ochre tint was done. The back and seat are padded and lined in red velvet with fine ochre and grey decorations. The type of carving accords refinement and gracefulness to the armchair. The shaped backrest, the wavy armrests and the curved legs give elegance and charm to this seat, easily inserted in any furnishing context, both marked by modern and antique taste...
