About the Item
Rare and important Johan Rohde armchair made in 1918-1919 for Georg Jensens shop in Copenhagen.
The chair is made in solid mahogany and is upholstered with Niger leather.
One of Johan Rohde’s big exclusive commission orders was all the inventory for Georg Jensens Silversmiths shop in Copenhagen, all of the furniture was made in mahogany, Johan Rohde made everything for the shop from the display cabinets and cabinets to chairs and lamps, Johan Rohde was one of the prominent designers at Georg Jensen and therefore he chose to make the furniture stylistically like the Kongemønsteret which was his international success and most sold silver cutlery. With its diagonally composed framework, which forms a pane-shaped pattern, the chair in its solution also presents one of many variations on this much-loved geometric motif in Rohde's furniture production. The look back to the Danish bourgeois empire, which they expressed early on at Rohde, became a central characteristic of the traditionalists' neoclassical furniture.
Literature reference “Dansk Design 1910-1945” published by “Det Danske Kunstindustrimuseum” today know as Design Museum Denmark.
Similar chair is in the permanent collection at Design Museum Denmark.
