About the Item

Le Corbusier 1 Fauteuil Dossier Basculant Armchair For Cassina A chair with timeless design that draws upon colonial styles for inspiration. Light weight and compact, the timeless shape of Fauteuil dossier basculant was introduced in 1929 at the Salon d’Automne along with other iconic pieces like Fauteuils Grand Confort, petit modèle and grand modèle, la Table tube d’avion and Chaise longue à reglage continu. Like all of Le Corbusier, Pierre Jeanneret, Charlotte Perriand’s works, the Fauteuil dossier basculant armchair stems from in-depth study of human posture and is engineered to provide perfect support for dignified relaxation and that, thanks to the tilting backrest, puts one in the mood for conversation. The compositional simplicity of the iconic armchair lends itself to various settings and is available in different versions, like the one exhibited in 1930 at the Union des Artistes Modernes expo. STRUCTURE Frame in tubular steel, polished chrome or painted finish. UPHOLSTERY Leather, hair-on leather, self-supporting saddle-hide. A lightweight, compact chair, designed in 1928 and introduced in 1929 at the Salon d’Automne [Autumn Salon], along with other extraordinary pieces, such as the Fauteuil Grand Confort, petit modèle and grand modèle, the Table Tube d’Avion table and the Chaise Longue à reglage continu. Like the other pieces in the collection, the Fauteuil à dossier basculant armchair is the result of in-depth study of human posture and, in this case, is specifically engineered to provide perfect support for easy-going relaxation that is conducive to conversation. Its elegant simplicity of design allows the armchair to fit easily in various settings. It is also available in the 1928 Villa Church version and the 1930 version crafted for the French Union of Modern Artists exhibition. Their collaboration lasted through to 1937 and was extremely fruitful, especially in the field of furniture design. The partnership was highly significant, both in terms of the cultural weight of their achievements and their professional successes. It was together with Charlotte Perriand that the pair tackled the innovative project for “l’équipement d'intérieur de l’habitation”. The resulting designs were of great intellectual value and considerable commercial success. Thanks to Cassina’s ongoing production, there is continued interest in the conceptual contents of the work and the level of quality attained.Due to these characteristics, each item in the collection is eagerly awaited.
