About the Item

Antique, French-Provincial, Louis XV Rococo, fauteuil armchair unupholstered in a couture Leopard velvet– carved with floral garden motifs inspired by the French countryside. Its warm, French-gray paint glaze finish is perfectly worn and aged. The rush seat makes it more casual, less formal. The seat cushion and arm rests are upholstered in a sexy leopard print velvet, a must have for all fashionistas! This particular type of couture velvet is getting harder and harder to find with limited availability and demanding price points, upwards of $1,500/yd. (with two-yard minimums.) It was likely made by Old World Weavers, founded by Iris Apfel and her husband Carl. It’s like “Tigre”, which may have been produced to mimic this fabric. It has a thick corduroy texture, very luxurious. A treasured find for collectors and enthusiasts of unique and one-of-a-kind pieces. This fauteuil chair brings high style and old world European charm to your home. As a Curator and Interior Designer, these are the timeless qualities I seek – knowing it will transcend time, always in style, never trendy. Please note - while this antique chair provides comfort, it is best suited as a decorative accent piece, ideal for a foyer, hallway, or as a secondary chair. Both stylish and versatile, this fauteuil brings a touch of European charm and character to any interior. We know, it’s hard to find one-of-a-kind pieces! Shop our listings for new inventory, curated from an Interior Architect and Designer’s POV. THE TASTEMAKER SHOPPE offers an exclusive mix of ‘new old’ furnishings, founded solely on good taste, not limited by any style or era.
