About the Item

Marc Pierre Simon “Deauville” Chair for SS France / Airborne, 1962 This elegant “Deauville” chair was designed by Marc and Pierre Simon in 1962 for the dining rooms of the iconic French ocean liner SS France. Following its debut on the ship, the model was later produced by Airborne, who continued its manufacture under the same name. The design reflects the refined sophistication of French modernism in the early 1960s—combining functionality, luxury, and sculptural precision. The chair features a gently curved backrest and integrated armrests upholstered in original deep-red vinyl, supported by tapered black-lacquered steel legs ending in small brass feet. The open gap between seat and back enhances comfort and visual lightness, typical of the era’s maritime and aviation-inspired design language. The “Deauville” remains a testament to French craftsmanship at its finest—elegant, compact, and highly functional. Ideal as a desk, vanity, or dining chair, it brings a touch of vintage French Riviera style to both residential and hospitality interiors. Dimensions: Height: 76 cm / 29.9 in Width: 60 cm / 23.6 in Depth: 60 cm / 23.6 in Seat Height: 45 cm / 17.7 in Condition: In very good original condition, with minor traces of use and a beautiful patina on the upholstery. The frame and legs are stable and structurally sound. 1 chair available. Professionally packed and shipped worldwide in a custom-made wooden crate, fully insured and handled by experienced art-furniture shippers.
