About the Item
José Zanine Caldas (1919–2001) was a Brazilian architect, designer, and craftsman celebrated for his innovative use of native materials and his commitment to sustainable design. Often referred to as the "master of wood," he skillfully combined traditional Brazilian techniques with modernist principles to create furniture and architectural works that embodied the essence of Brazilian culture.
The Kid armchair is a lightweight piece of furniture with a modern feel. Caldas created the design at the beginning of his career, soon after opening his company Fábrica Moveis Artísticos Z. The piece was one of the young designer’s first major accomplishments and marks a milestone in his artistic development. Made of Pau Marfim wood and upholstered with leather, the armchair prioritizes comfort without sacrificing aesthetics.
The piece is functional and durable as well as beautiful, a hallmark of Caldas’ deeply personal style.
