About the Item

Monofilo chairs are very rare handcrafted creations made from the union of nylon and iron, conceived in post-war Florence they amaze for the extraordinary visionary nature of the project, conceived by Luciano Grassi, Sergio Conti and Marta Forlani. They draw their origin and inspiration from soap bubbles and the shapes they take within a closed perimeter. The reference is to the study of the minimum surfaces, necessary in the design of membranes and tensile structures, light structures with taut wires such as monofilament. In this sense these objects, due to their structural and constructive setting, can also be read as an original and unique interpretation on a reduced scale of tensile architecture which, precisely between the end of the 50s and the beginning of the 60s, received new impulses thanks to the foundation of the Institute for Light Structures in Stuttgart, not far from the Hochschule für Gestaltung in Ulm attended by Grassi.
