A one-of-a-kind armchair by Oiko Design Office, part of the Biography of a Chair collection—27 unique pieces crafted from recycled plastic. Made from repurposed detergent containers, this striking black armchair transforms industrial waste into high-end collectible design.
The project was born from the discovery of an unidentified mold in a factory, sparking Oiko’s vision of recycled plastic as more than just a material—it’s a medium with its own narrative and aesthetic language, seamlessly integrating into modern interiors. Their approach goes beyond mere production, creating a holistic process that connects designer and craftsman, reminiscent of the Arts and Crafts movement of William Morris.
About Oiko Design Office
Founded in 2015 by José F. López-Aguilar and Salva Codinach, Oiko Design Office is driven by the question: What should a design studio be in the 21st century? Both PhD industrial designers from ELISAVA, José specializes in environmental science and materials engineering (UAB, UPC), while Salva focuses on business and industrial management—forming a visionary duo at the intersection of sustainability and design.
Oiko believes in material as the foundation of all processes, in human emotion as the key to innovation, and in the ecosystem as the ultimate source of inspiration. Nothing exists without nature—everything is thanks to Her. This philosophy is why they embrace science to push the boundaries of sustainable design.
