We are delighted to offer for auction this lovely original Druce Co LTD of Baker Street London Victorian mahogany small tub armchair with samon pink upholstery. All castors are original porcelain and fully stand Druce Co London, this is a small chair and could even be classes as a 3/4 size although you can sit an adult, this nursing chair or corner library chair and your on the right track A lovely beautiful piece made by one of the great furniture manufactures that sadly didn’t survive the war We have deep cleaned hand condition waxed and hand polished the timber, the upholstery has been professionally cleaned, it has some normal light wear and usage marks here and there, mostly its a lovely piece in stand out condition. Dimensions: Height 71cm Width 66cm Depth 67cm Druce Co. Ltd. was a large furniture store situated at the corner of Baker Street and Blandford Street in west London. The store was also informally known as “the Baker Street Bazaar”, the site originally being the home of a horse bazaar which extended to carriages and other goods in the 1830s. The furniture store was established in the 1850s by a second hand furniture dealer called Thomas Charles Druce. Druce died in 1864 and his son Herbert took over and ran the business until 1913. On 8th December 1940 Druce Co. Ltd. suffered extensive damage following a German bombing raid. The warehouse stock of bedding, furniture, carpets and antiques was largely destroyed. A small part of the building survived and it continued to be used by Druce Co. until 1956. In 1957 the store was finally demolished and the site was developed as Michael House, serving as the UK headquarters of Marks Spencer until 2005. The site now forms part of an office complex with adjoining shops and restaurants. Please note all measurements are taken at the widest point. Condition: Please view the very detailed pictures as they form part of the description around condition Please note vintage period and original items such as leather seating will always have natural patina in the form of cracking creasing and wear, we recommend regular waxing to ensure no moisture is lost, also hand dyed leather is not recommended to sit in direct sunlight for prolonged periods of time as it will dry out and fade.
