About the Item

"P 180" armchair for RIMA, 1968. Aluminum casting, fiberglass, padding covered in fantasy fabric.Manufacturing brand on the base. Gastone Rinaldi In 1948 Gastone Rinaldi (Padua - 1920 - 2006) became the owner of RIMA, a Paduan company specialized in the production of metal furniture, founded by his father Mario in 1920. During this assignment he discovered his vocation as a designer, which led him to revolutionize the brand's repertoire with modern and avant-garde models, born from his deep knowledge of metals. Rinaldi creates different types of furniture that become an emblem of the transition from artisanal production to industrial production in Italy in the 1950s, especially chairs, in which the metal composition is predominant. Among others, he collaborates with Gio Ponti in the design of the DU10 chair in plywood and iron rod, an element that becomes his distinctive feature, and which reappears in most of his best-known chairs, such as the DU30 armchair, made of iron and foam rubber, winner of the Compasso d'Oro in 1954.
