About the Item

A pair of Russian Neoclassical period mahogany parcel-gilt armchairs from the second half of the 18th century, with palmette motifs, black upholstered seats with nailhead trims and scrolled foliage. Each of this exquisite pair of Russian armchairs features a delicately curving back, adorned on the upper and lower rail with elegant gilt palmette motifs, whose golden hue highlights the beauty of the mahogany grain perfectly. Two handsome open scrolling arms connect the back to the upholstered seat and are accented in their extremity with striking foliate scrolls. The skirt, very simple in the front and back, echoes the palmettes on the sides, creating a sense of refinement and harmony. Each chair is raised on four slightly splayed legs. The result is one of elegance and refinement. The delicately curving lines of the armchairs show a simplicity that is a direct result of the Neoclassical period and allow our eye to focus on the beauty of the voluted palmettes. With their graceful lines and gorgeous décor, this pair of Russian 18th century armchairs will bring a touch of elegant classicism to any home, whether placed in a living room, bedroom or foyer.
