About the Item

A stunning pair of Swedish Gustavian armchairs made in Stockholm and signed (OEM) by Erik Öhrmark (1747-1813). In 1777 Öhrmark was granted the right, as a master chair maker, to produce chairs in Stockholm. Several of his chairs were found in Swedish royal castles. Gustavian Ax (also known as Vase) armchairs from Stockholm featuring balloon-shaped back with five vertical and interconnected slats. In the center, five ears of wheat form a bouquet on the crest that fan outward. Rolling arms with scroll detailing. Slightly bowed bands span the front of the base. Sits atop turned, tapered and fluted (front) legs. Made with turned H-cross construction. Tastefully repainted with a soft grey patina. Slip seats have been reupholstered in linen.
