About the Item

Crafted in Provence, France circa 1880, each elegant fauteuil à la reine stands on cabriole legs decorated with acanthus leaves at the shoulders and ending with escargot feet over an X-form stretcher for added stability. The armchairs feature a tall arched back and a deep, generous seat flanked by gracefully curved open armrests embellished with foliate carvings. The scalloped apron is richly adorned with hand-carved shell and scroll motifs on all four sides, characteristic of the Louis XV style. Both antique armchairs are upholstered with a luxurious floral and vine patterned fabric in warm rust and beige tones, finished with trim along the base. The pair is in excellent condition commensurate with age and use, boasting a rich walnut patina and crisp carved details. These stately provincial fauteuils would lend refinement and warmth to a study, library, or sitting room. Measures: 28.5" W x 25" D x 45.75" H.
