About the Item

Dress a living room or study with this elegant pair of antique armchairs. Crafted in France circa 1870, each fauteuil à oreilles (or wingback chair) stands on fluted and tapered legs with carved rosettes at the shoulders, over a bombe apron with delicate floral motifs. The tall arched back features hand-carved acanthus leaves and “ear-shaped” wings for comfort, while the curved armrests flow gracefully into the seat. Both pieces are upholstered with a heavy cotton fabric in beige and pale blue tones with geometric and floral designs, and a soft beige velvet on the reverse. Each chair includes a down-filled cushion for added comfort and is trimmed with large nailhead accents. The pair is in excellent condition commensurate with age and use, showcasing a rich, rubbed off-white painted patina with warm distressing throughout. Timeless and inviting, these Louis XVI-style bergères will elevate any classic or country French interior. Measures: 28.5" W x 30" D x 42.5" H.
