About the Item

A pair of chic early 19th century Swedish Karl Johan figural birchwood chairs with elegant scrolled arms, ribbon-carved backsplats with ebonized wood carved flower rosettes, saber legs, and black velvet upholstery. The Karl Johan movement ran parallel to the Biedermeier movement happening in Austria and Germany in the early 19th century. Originally purchased from Rita Bucheit, the preeminent Biedermeier and Art Deco furniture in the United States.
