About the Item

A fine pair of 18th century armchairs, Louis XVI period circa 1780. Our armchairs are so-called fauteuils à la Reine, a large format that is designed to be placed against the wall on either side of a chest of drawers. They became fashionable under the fashion influence of Louis XV's wife Maria Leczinska. The model is elegant, its proportions are well balanced, the laurels carving is refined and quite uncommon for the period. Although they are not stamped, the quality of our seats reminds of Jean Baptiste Lelarge's work, or another high level Parisian seat maker of the time. They are covered with a striped pink, green and white silk enhanced with a dark red braid.
