About the Item

This exceptional pair of Art Deco lounge chairs, dating to circa 1935, were produced by the renowned British house furnishers Bowman’s of London and featured in their 1935 catalogue. At the height of the Art Deco movement, Bowman’s was known for championing the sleek, modernist lines that defined the style in Britain — and these chairs are a superb example of that refined, architectural aesthetic. The design is quintessentially Art Deco, with clean rectilinear lines, a substantial silhouette, and a generously proportioned, low-slung profile. Their boxy, fully-upholstered sprung frames and deep, inviting cushions offer remarkable comfort while maintaining the bold, structured elegance of the period. The chairs have been recently and professionally reupholstered in a luxurious light grey mohair velvet — a fabric much prized in the 1930s for its softness, durability, and rich, light-catching pile. The luminous quality of the grey mohair subtly softens the chairs’ strong geometric form, bringing both warmth and refinement to the overall design. These are timeless, sculptural pieces that perfectly capture the spirit of the Deco period where comfort meets modernity in a beautifully balanced way. Viewings are welcome at our West London showroom. High-resolution images and detailed videos are available upon request. We offer local, national, and international delivery. Please don’t hesitate to get in touch with any questions or to arrange a private viewing. Literature 1935 - Bowman's Catalogue 1936 - Modern Furniture book- Everard Nelson Exton Frederic H Littman
