About the Item

An exceptionally rare pair of bentwood armchairs designed by Czech architect Radomír Hofman for the Czechoslovak Pavilion at Expo 1967 in Montreal, produced by TON, the direct successor of Thonet. Created as part of a limited edition, these chairs were later also chosen for the Czechoslovak Pavilion restaurant at Expo 1970 in Osaka. Model No. 615 represents the peak of Czech post-Bauhaus craftsmanship—graceful curves of bent beech wood forming a fluid, continuous silhouette that unites modernist geometry with organic lightness. The design was awarded “Best Furniture Design” at Expo 1967, reflecting the international recognition of TON’s innovative bentwood techniques. The pair remains in very good original condition, with newly renewed geometric-pattern upholstery that complements the warm patina of the beech frames. The chairs combine both sculptural presence and everyday comfort, ideal for collectors of Czech modernism or as standout accent pieces in contemporary interiors.
