Pair of carved and upholstered Jacobean Armchairs. Chairs feature intricate hand-carving and are upholstered in rich velvet with embroidered trim and brass nailhead accents. The chairs also feature high rectangular backs with finial-topped posts, shaped arms, and sturdy square legs joined by stretchers for support. Each front stretcher is beautifully carved with scrolling foliage motifs. Arms, legs and upper finials are also intricately carved in a foliate design. The design emphasizes bold linear forms, geometric carving, and solid joinery, reflecting both Renaissance and Gothic influences. The dark wood frames contrast elegantly with the deep red velvet upholstery, lending an air of stately grandeur.
