About the Item

This pair of hand-carved armchairs with gilded finish exquisitely embodies the grandeur of the Empire style. The chair backs feature a central medallion depicting a classical female figure surrounded by foliate scrolls and bordered at the bottom by baluster-like spindles. The crest rail is framed on either side by acanthus leaves and carved lion heads on the rear facing corners. Armrests are adorned with intricately carved lion heads followed by fluted motifs leading down to robust, clawed feet - all hallmarks of Empire-style design. The caned sides provide a delicate contrast to the substantial frame which is further embellished with a star and wing motif around the seat rail giving a subtle nod to the military conquests of the period. Pale blue silk upholstery featuring an urn surrounded by a laurel wreath and sporadic rosettes enhances the luxury appeal of these regal chairs.
