About the Item

A handsome and most impressive pair of French 19th century Belle Epoque Period Empire st. Birch and Ormolu armchairs. This exceptional pair of throne chairs are raised by front square tapered legs while the back legs have a slight curve. All of the legs end with a fanciful Ormolu sabots in the shape of a hoof while the corners are decorated by a foliate Ormolu trim. The straight apron above displays a central rosette flanked by berried laurel branches, with the apron and back are decorated by top and bottom trims. The arms are richly decorated by handsome ram's heads and large Ormolu mounts of Centaurs over scrolled foliate pierced designs. The central back showcases a pierced mount of a maiden with cupid fitted within a laurel wreath and flanked by pierced palmettes. The center of the rear side is decorated similarly with a laurel wreath flanked by pierced palmettes. Exceptional quality throughout and statement making presence.
