About the Item

An elegant and high quality pair of French 19th century Louis XVI st. Giltwood Bergère armchairs. Each most elegant chair is raised on four circular fluted tapered legs above oval supports and leading to mottled bands. Above the front legs are etched blocks with richly carved rosettes, with the back leg blocks having an etched square design. The aprons display a lovely bowed shape at the front and are decorated on three sides by a mottled band below an attractive spiral ribbon pattern. Above the square front rosette blocks are mottled 'S' scrolled arms leading to the upholstered armrest and back panels surrounded by richly carved overlapping foliate outer bands. The two top ends flanking a spiral ribbon carved trim are finished with handsome 'C' scrolled acanthus leave. Both Bergères are tastefully paired with small tan colored, diamond flower patterned, back pillows.
