About the Item

The M1 armchair was designed in 1953 by Carlos Milan and produced by Branco Preto, an architecture and design firm that opened in 1952 in São Paulo. Branco Preto was one of Brazil's forerunners of interior architecture and modern furniture. This gorgeous armchair has a simple structure in solid Rosewood with comfortable upholstery composed of a seat and backrest in a single piece, so they could be placed side-by-side. The studio was managed by the architects Miguel Forte (1915-2002), Jacob Ruchti (1917-1974), Plínio Croce (1921-1984), Roberta Aflalo (1926-1992), Carlos Millan (1927-1964), and Chinese architect Chen Y Hwa. It operated for approximately ten years and marked the history of Brazilian design, becoming a reference for architects at the time – who visited the studio to learn about trends and discuss ideas. This piece is in very good original condition. The wood received a new finishing and upholstery in a gorgeous bouclè fabric.
