About the Item

This rare pair of armchairs was designed by Ole Wanscher and produced by Fritz Hansen in Denmark in the mid-1940s. Both chairs retain their original production labels, indicating the model number 1755 and the original dates of manufacture—1944 and 1946, respectively—as well as the FH stamp, marking the renowned Danish maker. The design is a distinguished example of Danish modern furniture, seamlessly blending classical influences with modern design principles. Wanscher drew inspiration from 18th-century English furniture, particularly the refined ribbon-back and ladder-back chairs of the Chippendale style, and translated these historical elements into a contemporary form. Crafted from stained beechwood, the chairs feature slender frames and gently tapered backrests. Their signature curved slats add visual interest while preserving a feeling of lightness and refinement. The seat cushions are upholstered in black striped wool. These chairs are in overall very good, restored condition, with care taken to preserve the original patina of the wood, highlighting both their age and enduring craftsmanship.
