About the Item

A rare pair of committee chairs designed by Pierre Jeanneret for the Chandigarh administrative buildings, circa 1955–1960. Crafted from solid teak, these chairs feature the signature angular compass legs, rolled armrests, and cushioned seats and backs, exemplifying Jeanneret’s utilitarian yet elegant approach to furniture design. The current upholstery is a warm brown fabric with contrasting piping, complementing the natural teak patina but can be reupholstered to fit your needs. These chairs were used in government committee and conference rooms as part of the historic Chandigarh project, conceived by Le Corbusier and realized with Jeanneret’s furniture. Their robust, architectural form and honest materials make them highly collectible examples of mid-century Indian modernism. Retaining authentic vintage wear and patina, this pair is ideal for collectors or interiors seeking the understated sophistication of original Chandigarh furniture.
