About the Item
A good pair of Chinese carved walnut wood (hetao mu) armchairs.
The back features two facing stylized dragons around a central shou (longevity) medallion below a scrolled crest rail. The arms are also carved as stylized dragons. The solid plank seat sits upon a pierced high waist with a single beaded edge. Stylized dragons are further carved along the apron, while the spandrels are carved and pierced with a floral motif. Straight legs terminate in angular scrolled feet below the plain stretcher.
Originally completely lacquered, most of the lacquer has been worn through use, exposing the natural grain of the wood, especially on the seat and arms.
