About the Item
The Pierre Chapo S10 Sahara Lounge Chair is a masterpiece of French craftsmanship, known for its timeless design and exceptional woodworking. Originally designed by Pierre Chapo in the mid-20th century, this chair perfectly balances geometric precision with organic warmth.
Crafted from solid elm wood, the S10 Sahara lounge chair showcases Chapo’s signature joinery techniques, ensuring durability and elegance. The angled backrest and deep seat offer exceptional comfort, making it a standout piece for both relaxation and design appreciation.
This particular set of chairs has still it’s original leather, enhancing its luxurious feel while maintaining the integrity of Chapo’s original design. The leather has developed a rich patina over time, adding to its character and longevity. Some scratches visible on the seating area (see pictures).

Pierre Chapo
Pierre Chapo, who was born in Paris, France, in July 1927, was initially interested in becoming a professional painter. However, after a chance meeting with a shipbuilder who introduced him to wood and woodworking, Chapo changed his focus and decided to study architectural studies at the prestigious École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts in Paris.
After graduating, Chapo and his wife, the sculptor and painter Nicole Lormier, started traveling extensively through Scandinavia and Central America. Among the many places the couple visited was Taliesin West, the home and studio of Frank Lloyd Wright — a visit that had a lasting influence on Chapo’s future work and designs.
