About the Item

A sophisticated and expertly crafted pair of high-back armchairs by the progressive British manufacturer Vanson (W.G. Evans). Attributed to designer Peter Hayward, these chairs were part of Vanson's high-end line, which was often retailed at luxury showrooms like Heal’s Son in London. They feature a powerful high-back silhouette and elegantly tapered walnut frames. Crafted from solid American Walnut or teak-finished mahogany, the frames feature "S-scrolled" armrests and turned, tapering supports. The high-back design provides a commanding presence, elevated by button-tufted detailing on the backrests. These examples are upholstered in a contemporary Knoll slate grey fabric, which highlights the warm wood tones and maintains a clean, modernist profile.
