About the Item

Paolo Buffa Armchair for Egidio Proserpio, wood and velvet, Italy, 1956 Designed in 1956, this Paolo Buffa armchair captures Milanese elegance in a compact, sculptural form. A generous winged back opens like a fan, softly gathered by restrained button tufting, while crisp piping traces the chair’s curved architecture. Rounded, protective arms and a deep seat create an inviting posture, balanced by slender, subtly splayed wooden legs that keep the silhouette light. Paolo Buffa (1903–1970) was a key figure in Italian design, known for blending classical proportion with modern clarity. Produced with the Egidio Proserpio workshop, this piece reflects that signature mix of refinement and craftsmanship, echoing the sophisticated language of Gio Ponti, Guglielmo Ulrich, and Osvaldo Borsani.
