About the Item

Pierre Paulin “Slice” Lounge Chair for Artifort, 1970s Bouclé Edition, The Netherlands Designed by Pierre Paulin in the 1960s and produced by Artifort in the 1970s, the “Slice” lounge chair is one of the most celebrated icons of modern European design. Its sculptural form — two gently curved shells appearing to float above a slender chromed steel base — expresses Paulin’s genius for combining functional comfort with a bold, organic aesthetic. This example is an original 1970s Artifort production, recently re-upholstered in luxurious white bouclé fabric. The new upholstery accentuates the chair’s elegant contours and adds a tactile softness that beautifully contrasts with the polished chrome frame. The result is a timeless statement piece that embodies both mid-century craftsmanship and contemporary refinement. The Slice represents Pierre Paulin’s philosophy that furniture should bring movement and emotion into a space. Its open, embracing form invites relaxation while maintaining a light and architectural presence. Whether placed in a modern living room, reading corner, or creative studio, this piece elevates any interior with its sculptural clarity and comfort. Condition: Excellent. Fully re-upholstered in new bouclé; chrome base in very good vintage condition with minor traces of age. Structurally sound and ready for daily use.
