About the Item
An amazing primitive and naive vernacular 'Hedge' chair, also termed Famine chair, that dates from the 1800s and originates from England.
The piece sits on three legs, has a curved back, and a slightly undulating seat which gives it a great aesthetic.
Befitting of interiors that blend pieces of different styles and ages, the piece would work equally well in a contrasting modern interior as well as traditional and also one that harnesses the stripped-back, primitive,
rustic, wabi-sabi aesthetic that is so on trend currently and embraces and helps us see natural beauty in imperfection. The piece has a great patina that only the nature of the material and time can produce.
This item is functional, you can sit on it and it is fine for occasional use - given its age and pegged vernacular build it may be prudent not to overuse it.
Condition: The piece naturally shows wear commensurate with its age and use. Some of the age characteristics are no longer active woodworm, some losses, and imperfections - as there are minimal fixings there will be little wobbles and in general please expect the endearing quirks of a piece this age and type as you are buying a piece of unique history that is full of character.
