About the Item

A Rare Pair of French Art Deco Hand Carved Teak armchairs / Lounge or Club Chairs circa 1920 - 1930. The chairs are hand made of pure, solid teak and possess a unique, iconic form. The arms are curved and sweeping and form a continuous arc with the front legs creating a forward, modern looking sensibility, typical of the work of Andre Groult. In addition, they are hand carved and are delicately tapered to provide a comfortable, chic and graceful armrests where needed. The sabered legs are set against a back that is in a classic shield form. The back is also partially open which provides transparency and lightness and promotes the modernist aesthetic while providing good back support. In totality, the pair is daring, modern and elegant. The seat cushions can be tied to the frame. Additional References: French Colonial, Mid-Century Modern, Emile-Jacques Ruhlmann, Jean-Michel Frank, Andre Groult, Jacques Adnet.
