About the Item

This rare pair of armchairs was designed by Jorge Zalszupin in the 1960s and exemplifies his innovative approach to form and materials. The chairs feature molded fiberglass shells combined with natural leather upholstery, creating a sophisticated contrast between structural modernity and tactile warmth. Zalszupin was a Polish-born architect and designer who settled in Brazil in the late 1940s and became one of the central figures of Brazilian modern design. As the founder of L’Atelier, he was known for introducing new industrial techniques and materials—such as molded plywood, fiberglass, and refined upholstery—while maintaining exceptional standards of craftsmanship. The use of fiberglass in this design reflects his experimental spirit during the 1960s, while the leather enhances comfort and visual richness. The sculptural silhouettes and balanced proportions make these armchairs highly versatile, suitable for both residential interiors and curated design collections. An authentic and increasingly scarce example of Brazilian modern design from the 1960s. We are proud members of the Brazilian Modern Design Guild (BMDG), a collective dedicated to preserving and promoting the integrity of Brazil’s design heritage. This affiliation reflects our ongoing commitment to authenticity, transparency, and excellence in every piece we offer. Collectors and design professionals can purchase with full confidence, knowing that every work in our collection is an authentic example of mid-century Brazilian design.
