About the Item

This armchair in solid Caviuna with high backrests was designed by Giuseppe Scapinelli (1911-1982) in the 1950s. The piece has slatted backrests with thin vertical rods and comfortable upholstery with bespoke fabric in organic silk developed by Bossa Fabrics. The furniture pieces the Italy-born Brazil-based artist, designer, architect, and businessman Scapinelli designed are remarkable. His pieces have smooth curves, thin legs, and delicate details: creations marked by an in-depth study of futuristic, organic lines and, at the same time, by reinterpretations of classic elements. As described in Brazil's Casa e Jardim magazine at the time: "(He is) a classic who does not forget to be modern - or if you prefer - a modernist who does not forget to be classic". The piece had the old varnish removed and received new layers of imported shellac. Our experienced upholsterer made a new upholstery in using historical references.
