About the Item

Armchair in mahogany wood with silvered bronze sabots on the front legs, designed by Ruhlmann and edited by Alfred Porteneuve in 1935. Upholstered in a wool and silk fabric by Maison Prelle, Lyon, designed by E.J. Ruhlmann, “Les Ondes”. Émile-Jacques Ruhlmann (1879-1933) was a French furniture designer and interior decorator and one of the most important and influential figures of the Art Deco movement, even considered by some the godfather of French Art Deco. His designs are characterized through elegance and purity of form, made with precious materials and expert craftsmanship, combining luxuriousness with modernity. Alfred Porteneuve (1896-1949) was a French interior designer and furniture maker of the Art Deco period, having worked under Émile-Jacques Ruhlmann. Porteneuve later started his own furniture house, where he designed and created his own pieces with luxurious materials and expert craftsmanship.
