About the Item

Pair of armchairs in polished walnut. The slightly arched back legs extend seamlessly into the open back frame, crafted from solid walnut. The front legs connect elegantly to the belt framing the seat. This design is a variant of the model created in 1932 for a student’s room at the Pavillon des Provinces de France, Cité Universitaire de Paris. Stamped 'Ruhlmann'. Provenance : Private collection, France. Émile-Jacques Ruhlmann (1879-1933) was a French furniture designer and interior decorator and one of the most important and influential figures of the Art Deco movement, even considered by some the godfather of French Art Deco. His designs are characterized through elegance and purity of form, made with precious materials and expert craftsmanship, combining luxuriousness with modernity.
