About the Item

A wonderful and highly refined pair of sculptural Italian lounge chairs from the 1950s, featuring dramatic silhouettes, elegant lines, and a surprisingly comfortable sit—a rare and coveted combination in mid-century Italian design. Their arched profiles, angular frames, and flared legs strike the perfect balance between style and function, with a visual lightness that enhances any interior. What sets this pair apart—beyond the sophisticated design—is that the chairs have been left in their original upholstery, preserving the precise contours and tailoring of the design. This allows a skilled upholsterer to use the existing fabric as templates for a proper restoration—something increasingly rare and important, as many of these chairs have been compromised by poorly executed reupholstery that blunts their sculptural impact. The chairs echo the sensibility of Italian masters like Paolo Buffa, Franco Albini, and Guglielmo Ulrich, and would have originally been made by one of the fine artisanal workshops active in Milan or Turin during the postwar design renaissance. With their original proportions intact, they offer a unique opportunity for a discerning client or designer to restore them to their full potential—respecting the integrity of the original design.
