About the Item

The Ginevra armchair by the Castiglioni brothers (primarily attributed to Achille Castiglioni) for BBB Emmebonacina (now BBB Italia) is a masterpiece of functionalist Italian design from the late 1970s. Unlike the contemporary luxury armchairs by the same name, this model is a folding armchair that blends the agility of a portable chair with the comfort of a lounge seat. Key Design Features Concept: It was designed in 1979 as an evolution of the "Tric" chair. It seeks to provide a high level of comfort while maintaining the ability to be folded and stored in small spaces. Materials: * Frame: Crafted from curved solid beechwood (multi-layered). Seat Backrest: Made from pressed/moulded plywood, ergonomically shaped to follow the curve of the body. The "Armchair" Element: What distinguishes it from a standard folding chair are the wide, integrated armrests and the generous width of the seat, which give it the "poltrona" (armchair) status. Versatility: While designed for residential use, its "nesting" capability (they can be arranged in rows and anchored) made it popular for high-end conference rooms and public halls. Achille Castiglioni (1918 - 2002) and Pier Giacomo (1913 - 1968) were born in Milan where they began their professional activity giving life to a design activity entirely characterized by research on "new" forms, techniques and materials, tending to the realization of an "integral" design process. Achille and Pier Giacomo Castiglioni are among the founders of the Association for Industrial Design. BBB emmebonacina, with its 50 years of experience in the production of contemporary furniture, can boast a collection that brings together many of the successes of Italian design in the world, which place it in a prominent position in the international production scene. The spirit of the company, which can be traced back to the desire to interpret contemporary culture, is demonstrated by excellent collaborations such as those, among many others, with Achille Castiglioni, Paolo Ferrari, De Pas D'Urbino Lomazzi, Italo Luppi, Carlo Santi, Giogio Decursu, Laura Griziotti, Gianmarco Blini, Thomas Mittermair, Massimo Colombo.
