About the Item

Superb set of 4 important Asian armchairs in carved Chinese mahogany wood (toona sinensis). Carved with plant and animal motifs: 3 sculpted bats (symbols of good fortune, happiness and longevity), in the center of each file is a scene depicting cranes/herons in a lake lined with bamboo and where water lilies float . In good condition, small traces of use, small losses. Indochina (Vietnam) or South China. Circa 1880-1900 It was then the period of Japonism (1870-1910) and the colonies, furniture and objects from the Far East were then fashionable, they came from China, Indochina, or Japan, when they were not reinterpreted by European cabinetmakers (Viardot, Perret Vibert, etc.).
