About the Item

Introducing a set of bespoke Model 31 dining chairs designed by the influential Kai Kristiansen. Produced in Denmark in the 1960s these instantly recognizable chairs are constructed from a mix of solid and veneered Burmese teak, which have been sanded and left unfinished showcasing the natural beauty of the wood grain. The curved back and sculptural seat backs add a touch of elegance to the design, while the tapered legs add a sense of lightness and airiness. The seats have been re-strapped and reupholstered in a rich, thick-cut genuine leather hide in a fabulous hazelnut brown tone perfectly off-setting the natural wood tones of the solid teak frames. Kai Kristiansen was born in Denmark in 1929 and is a key designer of the 20th century. Kristiansen studied as a carpenter an in 1948 he enrolled in the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in Copenhagen under the guidance of influential designer Kaare Klint. At the age of only 26, Kristiansen opened his own studio and started making furniture in what would soon become known as Danish Modern. His designs were and still are produced by well-known Danish companies such as Feldballes Møbelfabrik, Fornem Møbelkunst, Fritz Hansen, Vildbjerg Møbelfabrik and Magnus Olesen. In the purest modernist style, Kristiansen prefers teak and rosewood in the creation of his works, whether they are chairs, sideboards, desks or bookcases. Today his design objects have great value among collectors, and Kristiansen is universally recognized as one of the most important and talented Scandinavian designers of the twentieth century. This set of Model 31 Dining Chairs is a true collector's item, perfect for those who appreciate the beauty and craftsmanship of Danish Modern furniture. With their unique teak construction, new leather seats, and elegant design these artfully-crafted chairs are sure to make a statement in any dining room or living space. Make them yours today before they're gone forever. ---Dimensions--- Width: 19.75 in / 50.17 cm Depth: 21 in / 53.34 cm Height: 29.5 in / 74.93 cm Seat Height: 18 in / 45.72 cm Arm Height: 24 in / 60.96 cm This iconic set of four Model 31 dining chairs has recently undergone a comprehensive and transformative restoration process and we love the results! The solid teak legs and frames have been painstaking sanded and left un-stained with a protective wax coating. There are no deep scratches, stains or gouges present with only minor veneer burns underneath the seats (shown in the detail photos provided) and the natural woodgrains of the unfinished teak is absolutely stunning in natural light. The leather seats and backrests show only the wear of once living animal (ranch brands, scars etc.) but show no other damage from use whatsoever. All cushions feature new medium density foam for maximum comfort and longevity. This incredible set of four Model 31's is incredibly comfortable, structurally sound and ready for a literal lifetime more of use thanks to their recent restoration process. Please view all photos and video for details on this set's current condition. We're limited on the amount of media we can post so additional photos and videos are available upon request.

Set of 2 Chairs by Harry Bertoia for Knoll Ready for Upholstery, USA, c. 1960s
By Harry Bertoia
Located in Deland, FL
Introducing a rare and limited set of two "Diamond" chairs designed by the influential Harry Bertoia for Knoll. First designed in 1952 for Knoll, the diamond chair was by far Bertoia's most famous and recognized design and formed part of his 5-piece wire-made body of work for Knoll called the "Bertoia Collection". The Diamond chair is characterized by a fluid, sculptural form made from a welded lattice work of steel. In Bertoia's own words, "If you look at these chairs, they are mainly made of air, like (a) sculpture. Space passes right through them." The chairs were produced with varying degrees of upholstery over their light grid-work, and they were handmade at first because a suitable mass production process could not be found and that's exactly how the upholstery can be re-done for these chairs - by hand. Featuring new automotive-grade, single-stage polyurethane paint, this expansive set is ready for re-upholstery a fabric of your choosing. Harry Bertoia was an Italian-born welder, sculpture and designer who after moving to the US in 1930, began studying design at Cranbrook Academy of Art where he met and befriended the likes of Ray Eames and Florence Knoll. In 1950 he began working for Knoll creating, among others, the now iconic "Diamond Chair" and the "Bird Chair". His work has been internationally recognized for it's forward-thinking approach and it's literal bending of both metal and rules set for Modern design and his work is on permanent display across the globe in such museums as France's Musée National d'Art Moderne. Knoll, now MillerKnoll, Inc., is an American company founded in 1938 that manufactures office systems, seating, storage systems, tables, desks, textiles, and accessories for the home, office, and higher education. The company is the licensed manufacturer of furniture designed by architects and designers such as Harry Bertoia, Ludwig Mies van der Rohe, Florence Knoll, Frank Gehry, Charles Gwathmey, Maya Lin, Marcel Breuer, Eero Saarinen, and Lella and Massimo Vignelli. Over 40 Knoll designs, including the "Diamond Chair", can be found in the permanent design collection of the Museum of Modern Art in New York City. With their iconic warped-screen frames and famous comfort this set of "Diamond Chairs" is ideal for collectors and designers alike searching for a set of authentic, vintage Bertoia...
