About the Item

Shapland and Petter Tub chair in oak, aligned to the Arts and Crafts movement (1880–1910), c.1910. The compact tub form with enclosed arms suits a study or hall setting. A notable construction detail is the pair of back legs set at 45 degrees to the front, giving the frame a quiet stability within a simple rectilinear plan. The shaped solid seat and shaped headrest provide measured comfort without ornament, consistent with British vernacular tendencies within Arts and Crafts. From a long run and sold individually, 20 left in stock, the model reads as a modest workshop chair that serves institutional and domestic uses with honest construction and clear structural expression. Proportions suit desk, library, or hallway placement. Circa 1910. An image of this tub chair from the 1903 S P catalogue. 34 in stock. Price per chair. HEIGHT – 83 cm. ARM HEIGHT – 73 cm WIDTH – 57 cm DEPTH – 54 cm
