Vintage tufted leather armchair set in a rustic wooden barrel.
Sometimes referred to as a "tub chair," this design takes the classic form of a traditional barrel and uses it as the framework for a plush leather armchair. Wrought iron straps wrap around the diameter of the barrel and cut at the curves to make up the arms and seating portion of the chair. The resulting stellar design sits atop four slightly splayed wooden legs.
Early barrel chairs were novelty mixed with utilizing available materials. The basic shape and structure would inspire a wide range of dining, sitting, and accent chairs, all with the rounded shape in the seat and back, but without any of the elements of the original inspiration.
