About the Item

Danish Modernism can be visually described by this beautiful wingback chair: sleek, organic and timeless. These attributes are met with high quality materials and the famous craftsmanship of Denmark’s cabinetmakers. From the welcoming winged body and the solid wood frame to the cosy bouclé upholstery, this chair expresses a quality of cosiness and comfortable conviviality that engenders a feeling of contentment. The distinctive shape of this chair is a result of the two “ears” that encompass the sitter. The history of wingback chairs can be traced back to the 17th century when they were originally designed to provide protection from drafts in grandiose and often cold homes. With high backs and "wings" on each side to shield the sitter from cold air, these chairs became a symbol of prestige and comfort. The dark earthy green colour of the fabric reflects the mid-century Scandinavian ethos of bringing nature indoors, creating a warm and calming atmosphere. The fabric, though modest in appearance, enhances the armchair's sculptural quality, inviting relaxation while maintaining a sophisticated presence in any interior setting. The chair’s visual appeal and interest is even further enhanced by the horizontal line on the backrest. Elegant yet unpretentious, this piece illustrates the mid-century commitment to quality materials and thoughtful design. The fully-upholstered frame rests on short wooden legs, which are tapered. From every single angle, this armchair offers a stunning silhouette and rich texture. It is truly timeless evidence of the mastery and artistry of the Danish designer and cabinetmakers who defined mid-20th century modern seating. Condition: In good vintage condition. Wear consistent with age and use. Due to the nature of the wood, the item may have marks, scratches, and discolouration. The chair has recently been reconditioned and reupholstered in a premium fabric. Each of our items can be re-upholstered by our in-house atelier in a fabric of choice.
