A French Louis XVI style carved-wood and upholstered marquise from the 19th century. This antique chair-and-a-half from France, often referred to as a marquise (a wide fauteuils chair), showcases all the Louis XVI decorative vocabulary with tightly carved scrolled knuckles, beautiful accent trims, and acanthus leaf accents. Flower head medallions are carved at the knees, above the four round and fluted legs, each tapering gently towards their feet. The backrest, padded manchette armrests, and seat are all upholstered in a cream fabric (note that there is some small staining).
