About the Item
Handmade earthanware Bench manufactured at the workshop of Apparatu in Barcelona. Different clay bodys are mixed with natural fibers like corn, straw, or heather straw. The pieces are casted by hand, creating a thick and strong clay structure.
It's a one of a kind object that has several layers of glaze and is fired at 1100C18º. The pieces are a personal exercise on glazing and the glaze formulas are changing on each object. The colours are depending on the combination of different oxides and minerals. Until a piece is completed, it is glazed and fired several times.

Apparatu
Apparatu is a design studio, ceramic workshop and a family business, run by Xavier Mañosa, which creates objects that are situated between the world of crafts, industry and art, the Studio investigate the processes and materials around ceramics and their application in design. Apparatu also carries out commissions for the likes of Nike, Isabel Marant or Hermès, and has exhibited at contemporary design festivals across the world, from Frankfurt to Tokyo, London to New York. Their studio is a creative hub where the traditional art of pottery meets resolutely modern technology and materials.
