About the Item

This two-person bench from the late 19th century would have been used as everday seating indoors and out, placed beside a square table during meals and pulled into the courtyard to relax in warm weather. The bench is designed in a classic Ming style, with a floating panel top, waisted apron, and square legs linked by straight stretchers with vertical supports. The timeless bench is decorated only by a finely beaded edge that traces the undersides and a finish of warm, red-brown lacquer, now faded along the edges from years of use.
