About the Item

Cleo Baldon X-benches, black wrought iron, oak and leather. Medium scale, handsome, California Modern benches with black leather seat cushions, blackened wrought iron X-form frames, burnished oak dowels, and black metal seating straps. Baldon was a leading Southern California architect and swimming pool designer whose furniture married the sleek minimalism of modernist design with materials reminiscent of the region’s Spanish Colonial heritage. I had the privilege to speak with Baldon about her designs in 2014, shortly before she died; she remarked that the X-bench was her "favorite thing".

    Refinished. Reupholstered. Wear consistent with age and use. All eight oak dowels were refinished. The wrought iron frames were touched up and new black floor glides were added. The cushions have been upholstered in quality black hide sourced from Dualoy Leather of NYC.
