An incredibly beautiful fully restored slatted wood bench (or coffee table) by Maruni, made in the 1950s in Hiroshima Japan. This super collectible and rare bench is signed with the Maruni tag on the front side and underneath is a label written in Japanese. We are unsure what it says - so if you can read Japanese, please send us a note with translation, we would appreciate it greatly =) The contrasting woods give such a sleek Mid-Century Modern look that you would expect from George Nelson who designed similarly styled benches for Herman Miller. However this one is so much more exotic and special. Each conical splayed leg ends with brass sabots that still possess its beautiful patina from around 70 years of age. if you or your client is a discerning collector or desires to have a distinguished and discerning style, then this is the piece for you. These are so rare - they are worth the slightly higher price versus the commonly found American made benches. If you would like us to add a glass top to make it a coffee table, let us know, we can make one for you. We also currently have a set of original 1950s Maruni Rope Chairs which are extremely collectible and rare, contact us for more information. This extending bench or cocktail table would work great in a Mid-Century Modern, Scandinavian Modern or Danish modern home or penthouse apartment but could also look fantastic in a contemporary or Post-Modern room. Also consider mixing it up in a traditional, transitional, classical or Art Deco room with a splash of juxtaposition. Would also be an apt choice in a commercial project such as a hotel lobby lounge or members club, creative design studio or high-rise executive office. Condition: Expertly restored, is mint showroom condition with light aging and patina to the brass sabots. Measurements: D 18.75" x H 14.5" x W 48" to 66.75" (fully expanded).
